RESURRECTIONS are some of the coolest tales in existence. Who doesn’t love a comeback?! You think a person, especially our hero, is dead and gone. Then - spoiler alert - plot twist! They’re back!

Truth be told, I always counted on the “Crash Bandicoot” franchise being revived on the Sony PlayStation. What I didn’t expect was to see it back, and this time on an Xbox.

Developed by Skylanders’ developer Toys for Bob and published by Activision, “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s about time” is a blend of the old Crash wonkiness and modern on-rail, as well as side-scrolling action. You can play as Crash or his companion, Coco, on a mission to preserve the “multiverse.” Wait?! Can I expect to see Scarlett Witch or Miles Morales?!

“Crash 4” has the familiar trappings from developer Naughty Dogs’ offerings, but the new perspectives are a welcome treat that will add serious replay value to this game. No one do you get the classic third-person, over the shoulder view, you will have sections that toggle between a side-scrolling platformer and an on-rails gameplay. The variations of action during the campaign was entertaining and never got stale.

Even though Crash is kid-friendly, even on the easy setting, you’ll give up the ghost often. Yes, you will DIE. You’ll misjudge a jump. Bye, Felecia. You’ll stand on a barrel suspended in mid-air. Boy, bye. For the veterans used to Crash, there’s a classic mode that has finite lives. The modern mode gives gamers infinite lives, as long as they reach checkpoint. There’s also an expanded shadow that helps gamers have more control with making their jumps.

The graphics look amazing on my Xbox One X. I did play is on my Xbox One S, and noticed repeated frame rate drops and stutters that was pretty much nonexistent on the XB1X. Gameplay was easy to figure out; controls were responsive.

Audio soundtrack was fun, and voice acting and sound effects sound like a Looney Tunes short.

If you are looking for a modern throwback to get your mind off this here pandemic, this may be the game for you.
